You (and/or your hopefully you _do_ have one advisor) will have to
define an acceptable scope (and hence define a level of difficulty).
Unless this is a continuing project w/ some baseline already developed
you're expected to extend, given your stated qualifications methinks
you're in _way_ over your head for the time frame unless this is going
to be a 60-hr week, nothing but this assignment for the duration (and
then you're still going to struggle and quite possibly come up quite
short of the actual stated objective above.
I'm not image processing guy but if you're really talking of developing
from nothing but basic principles it's not a'gonna' happen.
